Caroline Brown is a partner in Crowell & Moring’s Washington, DC office in its White Collar & Regulatory Enforcement and International Trade Groups. She is a former attorney at the U.S. Department of Justice’s National Security Division, was detailed to the White House, and she is also a former attorney-advisor at the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of the General Counsel. Following a decade of service working to disrupt threat actors and guard the nation’s financial system against illicit use, Caroline now advises corporations, senior executives, and boards of directors on matters at the intersection of national security, economic security, and international trade. She helps clients navigate economic sanctions and anti-money laundering compliance and enforcement challenges, as well as cross border government investigations and transactions, including national security reviews by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS). Drawing on her experience at DOJ experience and handling complex regulatory matters, she handles high-profile enforcement actions and representations before DOJ, OFAC, BIS, CFIUS and FinCEN. She is a life member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
