Matthew B. Welling is a partner in Crowell & Moring’s Privacy & Cybersecurity Group in Washington, DC, where he represents Fortune 500 companies and leading organizations in navigating high-profile cybersecurity and data privacy incidents. Matt also represents clients in compliance reviews, risk assessments, and in developing corporate policies including incident response plans. His practice also includes advising on technology-focused M&A activities, transactional due diligence, and post-merger integration. Prior to practicing law, Matt was a software developer and management consultant for IBM and Accenture. He teaches privacy in the master’s program at the Johns Hopkins University Information Security institute and is a member of Indiana University’s Cybersecurity Advisory Council, and he serves as the vice chair of the ABA’s Privacy & Computer Crimes Committee. Matt is also a founding board member of the re_direct Project, a non-profit focused on youth diversion away from cybercrime and supporting survivors of online harm.
